The benefits of a natural soap:

If the skin is the first beneficiary, natural artisanal soap has a positive impact on other areas as well. You can discover them in several other articles on our site, but here is a  simple list:

Good for the skin:

  • helps fight redness

  • moisturizes the skin

  • gives a feeling of softness

Waste reduction:

  • reduces the use of plastic

  • reduces the use of derivatives from petrochemicals

  • biodegradable, cleans without polluting our environment.

Economic:

  • one bar of soap can last up to a month.

  • reduces the use of other products intended for moisturizing the skin.

A remark is regularly made by those who start using natural soap: “At first, it gives a weird feeling!”. In fact, it's just a NEW feeling! We have accustomed our skin to certain types of shower gel containing derivatives from petrochemicals such as surfactants, silicones, etc. We are discovering for the first time the sensation of a natural soap on our skin. One of our expressions is: “Let's call a soap a soap”! This “weird” sensation will quickly be replaced, after a few uses, by a feeling of softness and better hydrated skin. Natural soap generally helps fight redness, irritation and other skin problems. A decrease in the use of moisturizer is also often noticed. Another advantage of a natural soap ...

Zero waste?
IMG_1849.jpeg

When we talk about zero waste, we immediately think of packaging. But there is much more than that! It all starts at the start of the production chain.

This is why we have only chosen suppliers that respect this perspective. We avoid purchasing raw materials in plastic containers, and if there is no other choice, we make sure that they can be reused by the supplier or recycled by the supplier . Other suppliers were chosen because they offer the option of delivering in reusable metal or cardboard drums.

We also opt for larger orders in order to limit packaging.

You will notice that all of our products are packaged in a very simple way. The goal? We wanted them recycled, recyclable and soon even compostable.

But let's talk about the soap itself. Natural soap is 100% biodegradable, so it does not pollute wastewater. It really has multiple benefits!

In our continuous search, we also found craftsmen respecting zero waste. So our “zero waste” soap dish is made of TEAK  from old garden furniture!

In the same vein, we offer in our shop various alternatives to disposable items, such as makeup removal gloves ...

The importance of a door  soap

We often forget this accessory which is however not trivial. The soap dish has several uses. Of course it gives your soap a place in the bathroom, shower room or any other location. Aside from that, it allows the soap to dry between its different uses. Indeed, as soap dissolves on contact with water, it may melt more quickly or become soft if it remains wet. You will keep your soap longer if it has a chance to dry.

The making

Making our soap is exciting. We opted for cold saponification. But what is this saponification? In short: it is a chemical reaction between a fat and caustic soda (NaOH). This chemical reaction creates soap.

For the recipe for G&E soap # 10, we use olive oil, cocoa butter and virgin coconut oil.  All our oils and butters are certified organic.

Once the saponification has started, after mixing the oils, butters and soda, we pour this mixture into molds. These molds are made to measure, locally, with wood such as oak, which we find in our country.

During the next 24 hours, the mixture goes through several stages to finally become soap.

After demoulding, our soap rests for 4 weeks. During this time the water evaporates, making it firmer and ready for use.

How soap evolves

Over time, our soap may change color slightly and become a little darker. Left in the open, the water in the soap continues to evaporate, making it harder and perhaps a little lighter as well.

It stays good for 3 years, but we hope you will use it before;)
